As of Monday evening (Europe time) airlines are beginning to start flying on a limited basis, and over the next 24 hours significant changes to scheduling should occur. For those travellers on long hauls flights from Australia and New Zealand here is the status of various airlines to Europe.
Air New Zealand is still not operating out of London Heathrow, although flights are going from Los Angeles to Auckland.
- Tonight’s NZ2 service from Auckland to Los Angeles and London will terminate at Los Angeles.
- Tonight’s NZ39 service from Auckland to Hong Kong and London will terminate at Hong Kong.
Emirates Airline:
Currently Emirates is not accepting any passengers for travel to European destinations (excluding Moscow, Athens, Larnaca, Malta, Istanbul, Nice and Rome) until the 21st April.
Passengers with flights who are departing from unaffected countries today but scheduled to travel via Dubai into the UK and Europe tomorrow will not currently be accepted for boarding from their departure country.
If you are in one of the affected European countries and your departure airport does open, you must hold a confirmed booking for that flight in order to go to the airport. You should not go to the airport if you do not hold a booking for that flight.
All passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. Please check your flight status online, and contact Emirates only once your flight is within 24 hours, if it is affected.
Please do not go to the airport if your flight is cancelled.
Singapore Airlines are operating flights from Singapore to Milan and Barcelona only. Other flights to other European destinations are still closed. Customers booked on affected flights are advised not to proceed to the airport. Customers who have registered their mobile telephone numbers with Singapore Airlines will be notified by text message.
Qantas flights from London Heathrow and Frankfurt on 19, 20 and 21 April will be cancelled. As well flights from Bangkok, Hong Kong to London has been cancelled on 21 April.
As for Train Travel in France the French Rail are advertising that they are putting more Eurostar trains on to ease the backlog of passengers. However they are still on strike in France for all trains from Paris to Provence and Nice. You would have thought that this was a national crisis and that the French Government would insist the full operation of these trains! Trains on this route are now running 2 out of every three during the day, but evening travel is limited! This train situation has nothing to do with volcanic ash.
Good luck with your travel plans over the next few days.
