My daughter Sarah continues living in Paris and regularly shares with us her experiences. You may enjoy her latest!
Funniest story today! Went to Forum Les Halles for the third day in a row to pick up these photos which have been three days overdue….dont get me started I expressed to the man yesterday that je suis decue etc etc (very disappointed) …slackers. Anyway I had these photos of Maxime and Ines (young children of our friends Hugh and Thea) and a few more and anyway I was so hot and flustered and was then told that I had to wait on another level to pay for them and the queue was a mile long and took me half an hour for four euros worth of photos! Anyway I was all pissed off so I thought Oh man I deserve a three euro fifty iced tea to buy and sit by Fontaine des Innocents which is just down the road. So bought this hideously expensive iced tea right and sit in the gorgeous sunshine watching the world go by then… Enter: Freaky Rapist Number Two (already had another one last week!!). I kid you not…what is with these Frenchmen?! Oh Mademoiselle you are sooo beautiful where do you come from etc etc, are you married he then asked me? And I said no but my partner’s (if only!) coming to live with me next month and he was like oh yeah that’s cool..; what’s your phone number….(as if the imaginary partner thing didn’t give him the hint!!) So I pretended not to hear and then I had this GENIUS idea, I pulled out my newly developed overdue photos and said “oh these are my children”!!! BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH… Now THAT scared him away! Genius! So genius.
Nothing will scare a creepy man away sooner than pictures of “your kids.” Well played.
Haha. I love it! Now I know what to do next time some creepy Frenchman hits on me!
Enjoyed hearing Sarah’s account of her recent adventures avec les hommes. I went through the same thing while in Paris — well, maybe not. But I do understand!

That’s funny!
Aww… I always pull the kids card whenever I don’t want to talk to somebody! Like Adam pointed out- it pretty much scares them away quickly!
How long will she be studying in Paris? Fun!
Thanks all for your comments about handling randy Frenchmen! Sarah my daughter has now fallen madly in love with a Parisian boy, so she is not as much the target of stray male passions. She has a job now working with French Cultural Dept promoting films, so she is writing an article on Cannes for me soon!! You can check out her latest project on http://www.blog.france.co.nz/2010/11/01/life-in-24-frames-per-second-part-2-of-2/
Fantastic creep-repelling technique. And so pleased to hear your daughter has a beau.
Yes genius with the photos of your “kids”. After waiting in the line forever did she decide to make the switch to digital?
Scott your suggestions of switching to digital photos is valid! Actually my daughter’s new beau visited recently and he only uses film; one camera with black and white and one camera with colour!! No doubt you’re not going to see the results of his work!!! He’s a good boy despite his approach.
Nice move.
ha, good one. I’m giving my wife a set of fake children photos as I type
Bravo, what a story. I can just see that guy’s stupid face.
If the kids don’t scare them off then they are pedophiles so really run and hide!
Very funny musings!
Glad your dad passed along your site for me to follow.
Cheers,
Priscilla
Brilliant idea, but the idea of creepy French men takes away from my vision of sexy French men that I’ve always had
That happens to me all the time! Frenchmen asking for my number… “oh, mec, you are so handsome.” Exhausting. 😉
Laurel thanks for your comments. I’m sure that NVR would be the first to say they’re not creepy, just sexy, and (them) oh so handsome!
Hehe, great idea and well executed!
I have witnessed this sort of thing before – right in Paris, by the Notre Dame church too: http://wp.me/ppqxP-2R
